I often find myself fascinated with the social implications of interplanetary travel and inhabitance. What would that first moment of contact be like? What would drive us to this extreme and what would it be like through the eyes of the explorer on the precipice of a new chapter in human existence.
A black box is an audio recording device within an aircraft with the purpose of recording events in case of incident- meaning it is an instrument meant to collect clues.
BLACK BOX is a growing compilation of experimental imagery that explores the inevitability of human interplanetary colonization. This is a collection of hypothetical future artifacts, clues from a future exploration, and just like the clues left on an actual black box these images are left to the interpretation of those who find them.

In theory, the closest that Earth and Mars would approach each other would be when Mars is at its closest point to the sun (perihelion) and Earth is at its farthest (aphelion). This would put the planets only 33.9 million miles (54.6 million kilometers) apart. However, this has never happened in recorded history.
